A friend asked if I could compose something to use with a parishioner to bless some prayer beads. Below is what I've written for them.
Pastor: Our
help is in the name of the Lord.
All: Who made
heaven and earth.
Pastor: The
Lord be with you.
All: And also
with you.
Pastor: O God
make speed to save us,
All: O Lord
make haste to help us,
Pastor: Glory
to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
All: As it was
in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.
A reading from Galatians 5:22-23a: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Pastor: Let us
pray.
Gracious God, of your goodness, you give yourself to those
who use these beads as a sign of your Spirit’s blessing over all creation, for
you are enough for us. May those who use
these beads find comfort in you, for in you all shall be well. In your lovingkindness, you have done great
things in your Son, and in that love he has made all things beneficial to
us. Grant that these beads may be an
outward and visible means of the inward, spiritual grace bestowed by your Son’s
Spirit.
Let us bless the Lord.
All pray the Lord’s Prayer.
The beads should then be
sprinkled with holy water.
Pastor: Heavenly
Father, in Baptism you have raised us to the new life of grace. Sustain us, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give us, in our continued praying in all
ways, inquiring and discerning hearts, the courage to will and to persevere, a
spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your
works.
