In the House of Friends: Understanding and Healing from Spiritual Abuse in Christian Churches by Kenneth Garrett is a richly-textured, even if brief exploration of the nature of spiritual abuse, how to recognize a spiritually abusive church and paths for healing for those who have experienced that abuse. Garrett doesn't simply give an academic account, though -- this book is filled with first-person narratives. In the House of Friends is a must-read for those who have experienced deep pain at the hands of other Christians and their Christian communities.
