Being a Christian means learning to love in and with God's love. But God's love isn't simply a feeling or even (especially?) a sentimentality. It has a certain content to specific actions that one can only learn in submission to those who have developed its habits over a lifetime. And that's why Bondi, in this deceptively little book, turns to the early Christian monastics for lessons. The issues here are no where clearer than in the contemporary American political environment, with sisters and brothers in Christ who champion things God simply won't tolerate: The hatred of others, exclusion, neglect, to name just a few.
