Life Together in the Spirit embraces the Anabaptist vision of discipleship for the contemporary Church. That vision is one that sees the central confession of Christian faith -- that "Jesus is Lord" -- as the focal point for every aspect of our lives. It's a vision that sees the Christian community as the context within which the life of the Spirit, the life of that confession, is lived out. Grounded in Scripture and in the best Anabaptist thought, Driver has given us a reminder that those who have come before us have lived the Christian spiritual life in the real world, and it's that integrity to the Gospel that is so refreshing in the 21st century.
The place that Anabaptism takes in Life Together in the Spirit is meant to highlight that every practice of the Christian spiritual life is incarnational -- planted firmly within a particular people in particular places for the work of God's Kingdom. While Driver unashamedly embraces that Anabaptist heritage, he does so knowing that there is so much more to be learned from brothers and sisters in the Church. There's a real ecumenical soul to Driver's Anabaptist practice. And that made this little book all the more refreshing to read. It's reflections are borne of a Christian faith that knows the petty boundaries we draw between one another are not boundaries God himself has drawn.
Each of the brief chapters ends with questions for study and reflection. That added feature offers so much to church groups.
